My first public art shows!!
I am going to be in two art shows in Ithaca this month, and it is my very first experience with displaying my art in public (other than the place I created it in, such as an art school or class). I have recently been invited to join a local art group, which consists of creative people who work in all kinds of media. From digital photography which is altered through computer software, to collage, to oil, acrylic, watercolor, and fiber arts. They are a very eclectic group, and mostly women, one man. The ages range from 30's to 60's (or 70's, not sure) and everyone has been very supportive of me. I am in my element. The art is being displayed in a jewelry store through May, on the Commons, which is a pedestrian shopping district in downtown Ithaca, NY. Since we have not one, but two colleges here in this city, May is a huge month for graduations. Cornell University and Ithaca College have their graduation ceremonies at the end of the month on different weekends. Cornell usually has Memorial Day weekend. This town explodes with people and traffic. It's our hope that some of these people will see our art at either the jewelry store, or our other venue, the great new Waffle Frolic cafe which has a great gallery area on the second floor. The owners are Ithaca college grads who started this great little eatery which features local, organic, and gluten free options . Waffles are made to order with all kinds of delish toppings. They also serve fried chicken, chili, sandwiches, smoothies....with outside seating and two levels indoors, and also right on the Commons, we are hoping that the families and friends of those who come for the commencement activities will visit Mansour Jewelers and Waffle Frolic during their stay. And maybe, buy some great local art!
